A FEW WORDS ABOUT DEVAYAN  (...contd)

This immense epic, consisting of 12,000 pages was dictated to Dr. Hajari by Lord Shiva (Pingal Maheshwar) and Sri Aurobindo in a constant stream of 10 pages each night. It is also worth nothing that this epic has never been edited or corrected. This magnificent epic attempts to depict the spiritual history of the world. An epic always precedes the changing of an age in India. This is apparent from the past cycles. During the passage from the Silver to the Bronze Age, Ramayana manifested. With the transition from the Bronze to the Iron Age, Mahabharata manifested. Now as the Iron Age is ending and we are approaching the Golden Age, a new epic, Devayan, has manifested. Devayan, unlike the former two epics, does not only reveal to us the approaching Golden age. It also narrates the constantly repeating human cycle lasting 26,000 years covering the Golden, the Silver, the Bronze and the Iron Ages. Devayan predicts that the present materialism would wither away very soon and mankind would regain its spirituality. Devayan covers the periods of Brahma, the Creator, Vishnu, the Preserver and Rudra, the Destroyer. Together, it consists of twelve volumes, thousand pages each, divided into thirty-two books, written in the Anusthupa metre, the classical Indian epic metre. The Devayan deals with the "origin of the universe"; the passing of the four ages including the descent of Golden Age. This is the age of the Supramental as envisaged by Sri Aurobindo. Mankind will have then evolved into a totally new and divine consciousness based upon the Vedic truths. The Devayan starts with the description of the creation of the Gods, of the universe, of the world and of all the beings who exist. In the beginning, there is only the Supreme Divinity with a three-fold will, to be manifested, to be many and to evolve. With these three wishes of the Supreme the creation commenced. The Divine Creator did a very long tapasya and as a result from his body was created the Mother Aditi (the good) and the Mother Diti (demon). From the Divine Mother Aditi were created the gods and from the Demon Mother Diti were created the demons. There are many stories concerning the creation of gods, their lives etc., how evolution started and how the plants and animals were created, until the creation of men. Some men were under the influence of gods and others were under the influence of demons. When during a war, many of them died, the others meditated and they found out the secrets of death and after death, of rebirth, of the spiritual and of the devilish force. When they meditated further the Divine Mother appeared before them and asked them about their wishes. These wise men prayed that the Divine Mother and the Gods should remain forever with the human beings. The Divine Mother accepted this prayer. The demon Mother Diti felt that she and her children were being excluded. She complained of injustice and appealed to the Divine Creator. For resolving this problem, the Divine Creator decided that both the Gods and the Demons could rule over the human beings for a period of 13,000 years each. The Rishies and the Gods realized that 13,000 years under the dark forces would be too long a period for the human beings. They meditated still and Goddess Durga showed them the way to shorten the period of Kali (the devil). In this way Kali would have complete control of the creation for 3,000 years only. She said that the two sons of Rishi Aptya, who had created the mental, vital and physical plane, could reduce the influence of Kali. Additionally, whenever there was an increase in devilish activity, it would be necessary to pray to Vishnu, who would come and vanquish the evil forces. According to Devayan, the complete cycle consisting of the four ages is of 26,000 years, out of which the Age of Truth lasts for 13,000 years. In this age, the whole world will be united under the Kingdom of Indra (the King of Gods) and his descendants (the Vasus). India would then be the spiritual leader of the world. As this age would be under the influence of Satya Deva (Supreme Truth), only those human beings who are turned towards truth would be able to live in it. To enter into this age, humanity has received a new mantra, " Yadsiddhi Shashwatana Devam Devam Yajamahe". The Age of Truth or the Golden Age that is going to start would be full or divine light, peace, power and joy. Men's consciousness would change, as humanity would be influenced by the spiritual plane and not by the vital plane, as at present. There would be no death, diseases or suffering. Men would always remain young, beautiful and filled with joy or Ananda. It should be noted that although there would be no death in this age, those who would like to leave their bodies would be able to do so.

After 13,000 years, the Age of Truth of the Golden Age would come to an end and falsehood would again start influencing the world. The vital plane would again influence humanity, but as the son of Rishi Aptya, Trita would help in reducing the influence of Kali, so falsehood would only influence 1/3 of the humanity. This would be the Silver Age. Towards the end of this Age, Vishnu would take birth as Rama and he would destroy the devils. The entire epic Ramayana is included in this part. The Silver Age would continue for 6,000 years. After the passing away of the Silver Age, the Bronze Age starts and falsehood increases day by day. The world still is not in such a sorry state as today, because the Rishis are still there, trying to help humanity with their spiritual force. All the same, 2/3 of humanity is under the influence of the vital plane. Once more Vishnu takes birth in the world as Krishna. Towards the end of the Bronze Age, there is a very big war between the Pandavas and the Kauravas; once more truth is victorious. This Age lasts for 4,000 years. The Iron Age, in which we are living at present, starts after the ending of the Bronze Age. In this age, humanity is totally influenced by the vital plane. In this Age, there would be a lack of spirituality. Men would doubt even the existence of Gods. With the influence of Kali many acts of sacrilege would be committed. Men would worship the power of the serpent, Arvuda, who has money under his control and Kamadeva, who sees to it that creation continues. So Kamadeva would be the creator and Arvuda, the serpent King, would give money to his devotees and would be there also for the physical birth. Death would be everywhere, instead of Yama the divine power. This is the resting time for the gods. For helping humanity in this Age, a few immortal beings take birth. These are Buddha, Christ, Mahavir, and Shankracharya etc. Their message to the world is not to lose oneself in materialism and to keep the spirit of hope alive. They all mentioned that after some time, Gods would come back to this world. This fact is mentioned in the Bible, as well as in the Koran. But this message became completely warped with the influence of dark forces. As a result, different religions commenced, which, instead of uniting humanity, became an additional factor in separating and dividing it. In the name of religion, many wars were fought and people mercilessly massacred. The Iron Age could be divided in three stages: Firstly, there were a lot of divisions in the world due to languages, race and religions as well as the rise of nationalism. Men became stupid, envious, violent and jealous. Secondly, there were still further divisions between countries and families. Peace was lost as a result of this violence. Thirdly, there were still further divisions in families, resulting in an unimaginable chaos in the society, which even caused friction between men and women. The end of Kaliyug comes, with materialism prevalent in the whole world. It results in a life, which is mortal, without peace, without unity, without hope and without any help. From that rock bottom, humanity learns to be strong and wishes to find peace and unity but with their own egoistic efforts. This is the modern civilization. One studies by trying to analyze matter, the elements and the force that exists in matter. One wishes to find truth with the scientific method. A starting point is made in fighting diseases, death, suffering in the humanity and humanity starts to find unity between countries, languages, the different races and religions. In this process a lot of "isms" are discovered to ameliorate the condition of humanity, but the result is that one has even less unity. At this moment the age of Kali or the Iron Age comes again to an end and the light of truth touches the world once again. For calling the Supreme Truth or Satyadeva again in this world, the Rishis, Sri Ramakrishna, Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo took birth. With their aspiration, they have brought the supramental force in the world and with their help the epic Devayan has come this world to show to human beings that a new cycle or Kalpa is going to start.
